Sisters Chapel

C+H designed the renovation of this significant Spelman College icon, Sisters Chapel, designed in 1924 by Neel Reid of the renowned firm Hentz, Reid and Adler. Air conditioning was introduced via a an underground vault for the new equipment and under-slab and attic ductwork. The balcony was extended with all-new structure to expand seating capacity, restrooms were added to the historic front vestibules, and AV was introduced to support use of the auditorium as a teaching as well as performance space, completely outfitted with sound and video. All of this significant work was done, keeping much of the historic interior intact, including removal, restoration and reinstallation of the historic pews.
